Representation of Police Officers

During the G20 protests, members of the public were able to get video footage of some of the officers using “necessary” force towards the protesters. There has been much speculation over the representation of police officers after people have seen and were involved in the footage. Especially after the man Ian Tomlinson died after the brutal force he was treated with while he was simply passing through the protests.
Footage of these attacks was shown on the website for the newspaper, The Guardian. In this website, police are being represented as being extremely brutal having no footage implying that they were simply "doing their job" and wern't being brutal.

19/06/09 - The beginning of the end.

Starting Year 13, we began looking at stereotyping and representation of preists, people from the middle-east and police officers from certain decades. This brought us to looking at spesific police officers from the programmes "Life on Mars" and "Ashes to Ashes", which tell the story of two characters, one from each programme, in which they both have an acident which then takes them back to the 1970's. The first of the two shows, "Life on Mars" stars a character called Sam Tyler, DCI of Manchester Police who is 2006 gets hit by a car in a terrible accident. The representation of the Police Force and Sam Tyler is extremely different at the begin...
